Hi, is there any way I can make programmes start up only on my user, and no-one elses? Eg I've made a programme that counts the amount of times you log on, but I only want it to run on my user, not my brothers.

yes setup separate user accounts fo everyone using the pc then login with your user name and password to do this in XP dbl clck users in contol panel in linux you need to be logged in as administrator (root) to change user accounts
 
Yeah, I've already done that, but If I add a programme to the startup folder in XP it loads that programme for every user, not just mine, what I'm saying is I only want it to start when i log onto my user.

What you need to do is drop the programs into your own startup menu, rather then the 'all users' startup menu

Your personal startup directory is located at C:\Documents And Settings\<Your Username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Delete the programs you do not want to start automatically for other user's by navigating to C:\Documents & Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I have the same problem. I login as admin and my son also has a account with admin rights. However as you said go to

and delete unwated programs. but when i try to do that for my sons account, i dont see the programs that i want to stop loading. for eg DU Meter loads up on his account on his account for no reason so i want to stop it loading but i cant see DU meter under the above path.
 
As far as I know, not all startup programmes are stored in the startup folder, in XP go start > Run and type msconfig and press enter. Click the startup tab at the top and you will see a list of programmes started on startup.

Only thing is, I think that changes it for all users.

Those are the programs, which are not in the "start > programs > startup" and runs automatically when you turns on your windows eg antivirus. You can disable them from msconfig by just clicking on the check box in there or alternatively you you have to manually go into each program and stop it.
If you want a program to run automatically when you turn on your computer, you can just drag and drop in "start > programs > startup" but that affects all other users to your computer as well.

This is just your own startup, any program you put over here will run only when you logon to the windows.

That's correct. But you will also need to delete entries in:

C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
