Stick with Current CPU Cooler?

At the moment i have a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler which is cooling my Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 (overclocked to 3Ghz) and i am considering on getting a Q6600 energy efficient SLACR 95W Edition and overclocking this to 3.6Ghz. I know i can reach 3.6Ghz becuase my mate has a similar rig as mine and reached that speed but he has a different cooler the Zalman CNPS9700-NT nVidia Tritium CPU Cooler and he thinks i should get this and ditch the Arctic cooler but the Zalman is too expensive.

Is the Arctic cooler up for the job or should i get the Zalman or even better do you guys know of any CPU coolers which are cheaper then the Zalman but have same performance as it does.

The cheapest Zalman CNPS9700-NT i could find was £50 too expensive for me.

well, i know that the freezer pro 7's are pretty nice, and they give a very good bang for your buck, but they are still a midrange product. So, you'll get some good overclocking performance, but nothing to extreme. That said, the zalmans are one of the best on the market rate now, but just make sure you get the 110mm not the 92mm
 
Yes it is the 110mm version i'm thinking of getting but its too expensive and i don't even know if it will fit in my case or mobo.
I managed to find a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme for £35 and stick a 120mm fan on that and it will do the job very well.
 
The quads put off alot alot more heat than the C2Duos. You will probably want to consider upgrading that HSF
 
Thank you for the replys but i ahve made my mind up and going to wait for the Penryn. My mobo supports 45nm so all is good :)

But what cooler shall i get for that lol
 
Your mobo supports the 45nm? I thought only the x38's did?

Edit: Oops, forgot that AMD decided to stick with the AM2 and AM2+ sockets, but I'm not sure if there is a chipset requirement on that.

My P35 mobo can support 45nm don't know if all of them can but mine certainly does i double checked it and u gave me a scare for one second lol

Ah, nice. I see that it will, however it will underclock it. Basically if you run anything other than the x48 chipset you will be underclocking your proc, which means you will have to overclock your mobo just to reach stock speeds, obviously voiding warranties. The p35/x38 do nto run the 400 FBS natively i believe.

Well i was thinking on getting the QX9770 when it comes out but that has a 1600FSB my mobo only goes to 1333 so im thinking of getting a new mobo with 1600FSB and DDR3.
 
Um.... I'd stick with DDR2 for the time being at least. They will defintaely come out with x48's with DDR2, simply because DDR3 is just way too expensive and and the price jump isnt worth the bit of performance you get.

Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Yeah, that would be the best idea, those have the best performance rate now for an air cooler, and they have the correct position on a LGA 775 socket, so that would be sweet.
