Trying to figure out why the kids computer is acting bizarre lately. Ill start off with the system specs

FIC SD11 slot a main board with a 550 athlon running on nc-611build ami bios 2x agp 5 pci 1 isa
    350 watt power supply
NVidia gee force 4 mx 420 agp 64 meg
    als 4000 pci audio
284 megs pny pc 100 sdram
zonet pci zen 3200 ethernet adapter
    ati TV wonder pro pci
    dvd rom + cd burner
    KDS 17 in Xflat monitor
    Os win 98 se upgrade

Since installing the ethernet adapter and updating the bios. Ive ran into snags on this machine. locks up ocassionally, the bios configuration gets reset to factory default screen resolutions get changed, the screen flickers the comp reboots green settings reset to windows default .
I've ran a viri scan and a firewall was installed before net was acessed. it checks out clean.Im wondering if I should flash the bios to a prior build was running nc -608 ami before. But ive never seen a bios upgrade cuase so much static on a machine, or my second thought was maybe im pulling to much from the power supply by adding extra components....

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated Thanks

Could try flashing the BIOS back to an earlier version. If its just an ethernet card you've installed then its probably not your PSU. I'd flash the BIOS back and see how things go from there.

It sounds to me like there may be an IRQ conflict. In the BIOS, try to diable the serial port if it's not in use.

On older systems, there just are not sufficient IRQ's available. Is the ethernet adapter USB by chance?

Discovered what the problem was on inspection after reverting the bios the capicators next to the GPU on the vid card were blown outward. "Mind you the caps were rated at 105 degrees c." So I can only assume that that by placing the ethernet adapter on the slot bellow the AGP port Caused the temp on the vid cards GPU to reach 240 degrees F blowing the h20 stored in the Caps nearby. Replaced the Caps for 75 cents and every thing is good." Fortunatley I did not burn out the GPU. Ill give PNY this much on theyre vid card GPU's they can take some abuse :good: And BTW thanks for all who replied to my posting I give credit for people who are willing to help others :good:
