Hello All, First off, Happy Labor Day to everyone. I hope you are all having a relaxing day. Secondly, I apologize for the novella but I like to be very thorough so I don't misguide any of you. Thirdly, I did check other posts with power issues, but none seemed to be exactly like my issue so I figured I needed to start a new thread. Okay so here goes: I recently moved from one city to another, I carefully packed up my computer in its case box, with packing foam and the whole works. So yesterday (about a week after the move) I decided to hook everything back up, my wife's computer and all the peripherals were fine but my system was having issues. It wouldn't POST, so I disconnected and reconnected all of the outside cables and tried it again, no go. I opened it up to see if the fans were working and they all were, so I disconnected and reseated all of the inside cables and still no go. I noticed during my attempts that the DVD/CD Combo Drive was making lots of noise, so I disconnected the power for it and the system booted up fine. It got to Windows, but I was unable to use the keyboard although the mouse worked fine. I then tried disconnecting the extras (wireless card, video card) and then reconnected the DVD/CD drive to try and see if it was a power issue. It booted up fine but again no keyboard. Again I reconnected all of the cards and the DVD/CD drive and it booted up but no keyboard. Then I tried to reconnect everything, it booted up but still no keyboard. The funny thing is, I can get the keyboard to work in the BIOS, but in Safe Mode or normal windows it will not work. So then I tried taking my wife's PS2 keyboard and it worked fine in Windows. I then tried switching the USB port that the keyboard was in, and it still wouldn't work. I tried it with the known good USB port (the mouse's) and still no go. Here's the situation with the USB ports: there are 4 in the back of the computer (directly on the MOBO) and those are the ones that will not work. I tried connecting the mouse there and it won't work at all. There are also two in the front of the case (connected to the MOBO with a cable) and those work for the mouse, but NOT for the keyboard. The crazy thing is, I know the keyboard is getting SOME power, as the NUMLOCK key lights up regardless of which USB its plugged into but once Windows loads nothing works properly. I'm really not sure as to why some of the USB ports work when others don't, as they are all connected to the MOBO in some way. As I stated before, the mouse only works at the front end of the case (case USB) but strangely not at the back end (mobo USB). Also the power issues with the DVD/CD combo drive have me worried as well but I can't figure out if its the MOBO or if its the PSU that is causing all of the issues. Here are my computer specs: AMD dual core 2.4 GHz ASUS motherboard M2N-E 2 GB DDR2 PC2 RAM (2 x 1 GB dimms) 320 GB Sea-gate HDD (SATA) DVD/CD RRW Combo (SATA) ASUS nVidia 8600 GT 512MB (PCI) Logitech Wireless mouse (USB) Logitech G11 Wired keyboard (USB) Again, thanks for any and all help in this. Hopefully I don't have to replace too much and being Labor Day I doubt any of the smaller computer shops that could check my parts aren't open today anyways. D.
Sounds like their is an issue with the usb controller. The bios could be corrupt and not detecting that controller as it should, so try a reset cmos this can fix alot of problems.
