Anyone feel like tempting fate? put yourself on this list stating your name, your location and what Linux Distro's and FOSS software your use that M$ claims infringes on there IP. [OT] Microsoft - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia [/OT]
As if Micro$oft can sue EVERYONE for using FOSS, it's stupid, they'd be suing at least 4/5 of the population.
M$ would sue anyone that they thought they had an outside chance of winning, i remember them bringing legal action against Lindows (the original name for Linspire, i think they changed the name to avoid further legal action from M$) BTW: MS would sue everyone, if they thought they could get away with it
They won't get away with sue'in anyway for using FOSS... and if they even thought about it all it would take would be an article on slashdot & and petition where you agree to boycott all M$ products and services until the drop the charges. its not is micro$ofts best interest to sue potential customers (would you buy anything from M$ if the sued you?) or the people that they rely on (geeks etc in tec support, just how long would windows last without tec support?)
Agreed, M$ are stupid enough to threaten people with legal action, but they're not stupid enough to actually try it. And if Micro$oft sues the customers, not only will future customers pull away from M$ but so will software developers, who will want to create software for companies that aren't so up their own arse.
Microsoft are anything but stupid.... evil, aggressive, a bully, scheming etc but not stupid. They exist only to make money, and they are *very* good at it, how else could they get away with selling the worst operating systems i have EVER had to misfortune to use? why does anyone use ISS when apache kicks the living sh*t out of it? Microsoft knows that Linux & BSD are a major threat and they *only* way they can fight that threat is by trying to stop people using them (they sure as hell cant beat them!) and they do this by spreading FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt). Microsoft will loose in the end, there is simply no way they can continue to sell there 'operating' system when superior alternatives exist, although this may take time, there number is up.
I still run WinXP but there's only ONE reason for that. Linux doesn't run my games. If Linux supported all the games that Win does, I'd uninstall it faster than you can say "Verification Code"
:agree: :good: the sooner the better have you tried them in Wine personally ive successfully run a lot of Windows stuff on wine
I've had quite alot of success playing windoze games in Linux too, Half Life 2 was a bit buggy (that was afew months ago, might have changed now) but Counter Strike Source worked a charm
