I have an old Hewlett Packard with an old hard drive. And iam wondering can i take a new hard drive out of a new hewlett packard and put it in my old one. If so what do i have to do. This old computer has only three gig and this new one has forty gig. Can any one tell me step by step what i can do or can i even do that where the computer is old.
If they are both the same type (IDE,SATA) hard drives then this shouldn't be a problem(Assuming they are) Simply open up the case on both the pcs and pull out the power lead and ribbon cable on both hard drives then reconnect your new hard drive to the old hard drives wires and vice versa if you want to put your old one in the other pc.
Also I forgot are both hard drives master? If they are then the jumpers hopuldn't be a problem. If not what do you wish to set them as?
It depends on wether you want to replace the drive or just add it as an extra. If you want to replace the drive then you set the 40gb one to master and then install your OS onto it. If you're just adding it then you set it as slave and use it as an extra drive.
But It Still Wont Show up on my pc i dont have a disk to install it. I was gonna add it as a slave and just save music. But it woundnt show up i have tried everything
I assume this is an IDE drive. First check that your BIOS can actually detect your drive. Press Del or F11 when your computer starts to boot and then go into the BIOS and see if your BIOS can see it.
