I'm 'making' a new PC by choosing all the specs I want. I'm forced to choose a hard drive but I don't want to start all over and the like. Is it possible to take the hard drive out and put it in my new computer? Would it work? This should be what I have now. http://www.unityelectronics.com/pro...0RPM_16MB_HDP725050GLA360_0A35415_Refurbished And this is the new motherboard I'm looking at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128443
I am not sure on what you are trying to do, If you change the Motherboard, then all your drivers will also change... You will have to format and reinstall the OS..
you could try what they call "repair install" to preserve what you have by switching over to a new pc. depends on your os and other conditions... for win 7 http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?filter i know that in winxp it had to be pro edition and not oem, but i'm not sure about the newer os's. you might just be able to get away with plugging it in and make it work from there. before you try anything you might want to make an image backup of your drive. it could crash and you would definitely need to do a clean install.
Don't know if you have looked at this already but microsoft has a file transfer program 4 xp settings to windows 7 Worth having a look at anyway http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer
