System keeps Restarting

Hi ppl

I bought a new 40 GB HDD and installed windows 98 for the first time and my machine is a 1.1GHZ Intel Celeron PC.During the installation process my machine installed all the drivers by itself and i was really amazed as in normal scenario we need to normally install the drivers for win98. Once the installation was done i restarted my machine and it worked fine. While shutting down i found that it is not happening. I tried with the various options like the fast shut down in the msconfig tab. No what happens is that i am not able to work in the system as after normal booting to the desktop the machine gets restarts again and again. Could it would be a problem with my smps or do i need to take all the cards out and reset it back again. Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like windows is corrupted!
Have you tried your old/a different HDD in it with windows installed or your new HDD in a diffenent computer?
 
Don't use fast shutdown, it doesn't work. I've seen LOADS of forum threads where the fast shutdown option was reported to be causing problems. I don't know if that will necessarily solve your problem but using it only creates more.
 
Hi m8 how long are u on desktop b4 it restarts? its sounds to me like u will have to reinstall windows but fully format the hdd first using a win 98 start up disk the use of fast shut down has caused problems for many users resulting in this mess hope it helps Dave. :cool:

The if u r post is corect what could be exact problem then.....
 
i dont think it would fix it but its worth a shot!
there actually might be a program or service thats stopping it shutdown!
 
Hey Man !!!!

As per u r instructions I tried connecting a Hard drive from a different system to my PC and it owrked fine. And when i connected my hard disk to the other PC it worked fine. The new hard drive works fine in other pc but not in my pc. When i replace the new with the old hard drive into my pc it works fine. What could be the problem

I had a second thought in my mind that I have an old 40 Gig hard drive where i could install the os and also the drivers from my machine and see whether i am facing the same problem. As i have a doubt in my mind that there might be problems with the device drivers also.

Any suggestions please........................
 
your computer could be set at the wrong format type in BIOS, wrong cable type, could be anything, someone else will advise!

Well, then you're not experiencing the "too much memory" problem with 9x. Rather, it sounds like you're likely suffering from the symptoms of a virus. Was the system ever connected to the internet without a firewall?
