    HI,

I have added a new memory module pc2700 ddr333 200pin sodim 512 mb to my laptop which has pc2100 ddr266 sodim 200 256mb. The bios seems to be showing 512+256 mb and windows xp starts properly and the memory is working fine.
    1) When i try to restart the system from windows xp the system shutsdown and displayes a blank screen. the system power seems to be on and blank screen is displayed. i have to switch off the system by holding down for few seconds and trying to start the system works fine.

2)When i shut down windows xp, the system shut down properly. after that when i start the system by pressing the power button, only blank screen is displayed and the fan and other parts seems to be working. i switched off the system and tried to start again. they system started withot any problem.

So for the first time the system is able to display only the blank screen. and trying second time worked fine.. i removed the new memory module and everything works fine.

    Any help would be appreciated

Try the new module by itself first and see if you get the same problems. If you do, you've likely got a bad module. However, if that fails, try the original module you have in the second SODIMM slot and leave the new one out. If that causes problems, you probably have a faulty SODIMM slot. If that fails to produce a result, run the new module in the first SODIMM slot (where you had your original module) and the original module in the second slot. If you get errors then, you new modules may be butting heads.

I tried the new module only in one slot..the bios shows correctly but windows xp crashes everytime...

new module in the old module slot...and the old module in the second slot..the bios shows correctly..and windows xp works fine..but the restart problem remains.

I think BB gave you enough to go on.

Try the original module in both slots. If the laptop works fine than it is definitly the newer module. If the laptop is having a problem with the original module in the second slot then it is the slot....
