Hi

Im new to this forum and am hoping someone can help wih a problem.
I am trying to use system restore but am unable: a message comes up saying it has been turned off by group policy and to contact the domain administrator. What does this mean? and how do I restore this function?
thxkate

hi Kate welcome!

are you a administrator on the computer you are using? if not you can't use system restore. Are there other users on the computer?

There are no other users on my pc. System restore was ok until yesterday. I have used it before without any problems.

I think you might have disabled it? so try this!

Start > Run > type in "gpedit.msc" this will run the Group Policy Editor

Navigate to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/System Restore

Set Turn off System Restore and Turn off Configuration to Disable

Right click on My Computer and Select Manage

Navigate to Services and Applications/Services

Navigate to System Restore Service and double click

On the General tab set [Startup Type] to Automatic using the drop down list
Click the Start button to start the service

Close the Computer Management console

Return to System Restore in Group Policy Editor and configure both to Not Configured

Close Group Policy Editor and reboot the system.

Hi
thx for the info but after typing in gpedit.msc it says the computer does not recognise this and can not find it.
