Well, I foung this article on the internet and found it quite interesting. I haven't been able to look into it past just this article because I have a lot of homework, but it sounds interesting. But I think, seeing how the U.S. made the internet, and computers, and an American even discovered electircity, th U.S. should be able to control it. And theres nothing stopping China and Russian from making their own inernet. I don't know about anybpdy else but I don't hang around Russian or Chinese websites in my spare time, so it wouldn't affect me, and I doubt it would affect too many other people. Anyways, what are you guys' (or girls') thoughts?

Absolutely noone should be able to control the internet, it belongs to everyone!
Who cares if the U.S invented it, i sure don't.They only want to control it because it has gotten out of their control a long time ago and there is too much freedom on the net. When you think about, almost every invention in history is just a modification of someone elses idea, and then they claim the credit for it! I'm not saying the U.S army did this, but they got the idea from somewhere!
If they do end up controlling the internet, i think maybe Australia should control the sales Esky's, Wind up clothes lines, Refidgerators, Stay sharp knives, lamingtons, Wine casks, The NOTEPAD, the electric drill, latex gloves, the black box flight recorder, the two stroke lawn mower and even postage stamps, just for laughs!
And lets not forget about the UK,
what if they controlled their inventions?
Gas mask, fax machine, the jet engine, depth charge, first adhasive glue, locomotive, penicilin, radar, sewing machine, toliet paper, waterproof fabric, the tincan and corkscrews!
By the sounds of it, the internet seems to be americas greatest invention, but they can't control it!

    Hold on a minute!

Before you get your panties in a bunch, there is more to this than "the US has all the control! Egotistical bastards!". Consider the fact that ICANN is a non-profit organization. The Internet is in fact a seriously stable network, and is largely free from censorship in most places... except for countries like China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, where under their respective regimes freedom of expression is stamped out. And guess who is behind this recent power grab for control over DNS? Yep, primarily those three. FTA:

    (Emphasis mine)

So, before you jump on the thought bandwagon, think of the far-reaching implications.

    All the best,

I don't think that at all, and i realise there is alot more to it, and i especially didn't mean for my post post to sound so blatently ignorant and biased.

Basically i just wanted to say that they shouldn't gain control over it even though it's the U.S's invention, but i can understand why they would want to :)

The US is not gaining control over DNS, the US has had that for over 40 years. The valid complaint I see is that the best domain names have been typically reserved for the US, the '.com sweet spot'. But in my mind, the primary reason for this is that the US did start it, so we were the first involved with it. Therefore, .com was an american domain before it was international one. The fact that things are unbalanced now and need to be corrected stands, but the methods introduced by the EU sounds like crazy-talk to me.

CERN invented the internet (the original network of computers they had....maybe not as we know it today), they used it to transfer data about experiments between computers they owned, my friends Dad does a lot of work with them and they have now moved onto some of the most advanced networking, they're woeking in Terrabytes/s over there... :eek:hah: I know you're probably thinking, "damn shut up you've been reading that Dan Brown book" and yes i have, but that book only told me what i already knew...
