Time to Upgrade

It's been awhile since I upgraded and I think it's time to do so. Anyone have any ideas as to which wayto go AMD vs Intel ? Currently I running AMD socket 939 with the 4400+ cpu . I've heard that Intel's prices will drop in July and that the Q6600 will be around $266 , so this is what I'm thinking. I would like a mobo that will support the new 1333mhz cpu's when they come out and could someone recommend these parts to me . Cpu, Mobo, and some memory. I have everything else from my current system. I have around $800.00 to spend thanks.

Currently I would say that Intel has the advantage on the market CPU wise. I havent heard anything about intels prices dropping in July though, Q6600 for that price seems a bit.. low -- A ~300 dollar price drop seems a bit excessive. Depending what you are planning on doing with it, I dont really see a need for a Quad core system ATM. Not all games even support Dual Core at the moment.

Are you planning on gutting your current rig and using some parts from it to keep your price down? If you are, That is great - If you are tring to build a new rig for 800 dollars, That may proove difficult.

Assuming that you are going to gut certain parts of your current rig, I would keep your DVD Burner, PSU, and maybe case?
 
Well I never saw that artical before, I suppose if the information is accurate and you have the money for that CPU then I would go for it.. I still don't think there is a need for quad core currently, but It surely wouldn't hurt to have it for the future just as long as something new doesn't come out before then.

That is the RAM i have, Its a cheap gaming ram.. If you want to spend the extra money and go with something a bit more high performance, feel free too.. I don't really see a need to do it though.

The link above are all the ones that the motherboard will support, It seems as if you want to go with the Q6600, which is supported by the motherboard.
 
I don't know about upgrading. That's still not a bad system, so while it's not the top-end, if you want something to exceed that box's performance, I can't see $800 doing that, unless you're planning to sell most of the parts and use that money to fund the build.
 
This is what I've come up with for a Mobo (Asus P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i SLI Socket 775 1333MHz DDR2-800 ) , memory (Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance x 2 ) and the Q6600 cpu when the price drops in July.

Mobo= 180.00
Ram = 262.00
Cpu = 266.00 to 300.00 depending on price drop

Total cost $ 742.00 with free shipping and some rebates.
