If you think there might be a price drop for some of your items within the next couple of weeks then try to hold off. I built a sytem one month ago, and it was with a about 1550 with S&H, now if i had built it now with an upgrade from an x800 xl to an x850 xt pe (at tiger direct $309 power color) for just under 1400, so not only would i have saved almost $200 but i would have gotten the 3rd best graphics card on the market. So advice to you guys look for clues like new processor lines, or new more graphics cards which will make the one you want drop in price. For me My CPU droped $50 (due to 3800+ X2), Newegg had a $50 mail in rebate on my Sound Card a week after i bought it, and right now(newegg runs new specials every weekend, check them out), the x850's from power color dropped in price, and 19 in lcd's seem to always be super low priced at tiger direct (fantastic rebates). So if you notice any of the clues stated above you might want to think about wating.
that happens all the time, as soon as you buy parts and build a computer they are cheaper, so if you keep holding it off until you think the prices will drop then something completely new comes out. Find what you want, search for a reasonable amount of time to fid the cheapest parts (considering delivery as well as buying from many places can make things more expensive) and buy them, yeah sure the next month they may have them for $50 cheaper but thats probably because something new is coming out and if you had waited you'd be wanting the new thing. I can see what you're saying but i wouldn't put it off for too long.
It's nothing new, and this stuff happens in any market. It's basic economics. As the companies ramp up production of a product, the prices drop, unless the demand exceeds the production output, then the price goes up. Watch: you'll see the high-end video cards come out with $500 pricetags and most will drop to around $300 within a six month timeframe. This always happens, just watch the product cycles.
I realize it happens all the time, but if there is a clue like the 3800 x2 that was coming out in a week, you might wanna wait because your processor you were going to buy will drop in price. My 3700+ dropped 50 dollars a couple of days after mine arrived because of that dual core launch. So im not implying wait 6 months Im saying if you think in the next week or so you might want to hold off.
Waiting for the prices to drop is a race on an upwards escelator. I waited for my CPU price to drop. It dropped still. So? Now for the same price I can get a better one... never ending mate! :crash: You will be waiting forever otherwise so stop beating yourself about it... :stag:
Well in my case i was really pushing my budget, my partents were paying for a bunch of parts they didnt need (i.e. CPU that was overkill for them, a grapics card that was overkill for them, etc) so my point is for people on a tight budget.
What I do is check up on company road maps, if it looks like something big is coming out soon then I can wait, but if a major revision is just released and I can afford it than it's full speed ahead to the checkout. Do a bit of research before you buy anything, chances are there's a better way to do things. Maybe the same product is cheaper elsewhere (pricegrabber will help with this), maybe there's a better alternative, or maybe if you cut down on one item and get a more expensive processor for instance you'll get better performance all around and you win. It's good to do your homework with any technology purchase.
