Heyy, im new around here but not new to the whole hardware for a computer, i just need some advice on how i am looking at this and would like to know of any better ideas i could put it. Alright with no further adieu here is what my computer looks like (currently being shipped to me): Video card__ EVGA E-GEFORCE 8600GTS 675MHZ 256MB 2.0GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out DIRECTX10 Video Card Mother Board__ Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R ATX LGA775 Conroe P35 DDR2 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 SATA RAID Sound GBLAN Motherboard Case__ Antec Sonata III Black ATX 16IN Quiet Case 3X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5IN 500W 120MM Fan Ram__ Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Chan Hard Drive__ Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 8.9MS Hard Drive 3 Year MFR Warranty Processor__ Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor LGA775 Kentsfield 2.40GHZ 1066FSB 8MB Retail Box COST = $998.47 CDN First off was that a good price to buy those parts? second, i understand the 8800 is a much better video card although what i plan on doing is test driving my Q6600 until late 2007 when intel will release their newer line of processors at which ill make a decision on if i want to get that new processor and at the same time buy a video card that will be better then the 8800, possibly the 8900? Also im worried about the intel processor iv heard that it heats up to 60C but people say it can go to 100C so im gonna test this new system for about 3 months with the stock cooler and heatsink after which i plan on getting these: -Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro LGA775 2500RPM 45CFM for the processor - Antec TriCool 120MM Case Fan 3-SPEED 1200/1600/2200RPM 25/28/30DBA 39/56/79CFM 3 & 4PINS for the case to allow better air flow So What do you think about my 3 month plan and my late 2007 plan am i thinking this out right or should i get better hard ware for the time being?
I'm always jealous when I reply to these kinds of posts Thats a pretty good deal compared to our prices here (converted of course) I would get the 8800GTS (overclocked version if possible) over the 8600GTS simply because the cost/performance ratio is better plus you get extra zip from the overclock. Don't worry about the overheating problem of the core2quads, the guys who reported that might have forgotten to put the fan on:doh: average temps should be around 45 degrees idle and 70 max load nothing higher. (based on Q6700 temps so the Q6600 should be marginally lower) hope these help
