I think you will find your laptop is fine, but the software has become corrupt. The error you describe sounds like a Windows 9x error. If so, try this: 1) Get a copy of a Windows 9x rescue/startup floppy. If you don't have one, you can get one at www.bootdisk.com 2) Turn on your computer and enter CMOS setup. Make sure your floppy drive is set as the first bootable item. 3) The floppy will begin loading and present you with a screen that asks if you want to enable CD-ROM support. You can answer however you like. 4) Once at the command prompt (A:\>) you will need to type SYS C: 5) Once that has completed, type WIN. This should take you into Windows Let me know if this works for you. If you have Windows NT/2000/XP this will not work for you! Please specify which OS you have!
Hi Thank you for your response; this laptop is loaded with windows 98; out of desperation I got into start up menu and there I got 5 choices of how to start the computer every option I choose to start the computer with a message came up saying “windows bypassing your command” but for 1 choice which is step by step, there were many questions which I had to answer “yes or no” so I followed the instructions all the way until the laptop got to a stage where it was ready load S/W from CD-ROM so I clicked yes and then there was another message saying “Batch File missing” and that was it I couldn’t go any further so I switch it off for a while then turn it back on since then all it is “Invalid system disk, Replace the disk, and press any key”. I do have a copy of Windows 98 disk and key, which I inserted in the drive but it wouldn’t recognise it and keep saying the same message “Invalid system disk, Replace the disk, and press any key”. Thank you for help…abbs2002...
Hi, I'd like to offer an alternative if I may. I also have a tecra 8000, which came to me in 2002 with windows 98 (first addition, the rats...). I upgrded it to windows 2000 pro with no problem, but it was a pain... But recently I have purchased windows XP from a wholesale supplier in the US for $81.00 (includes taxes, etc) and loaded it on the 8000 with no problems. I would highly recommend the additional cost, it has been marvelous loading and using it. It recognized all the hardware and periphials I had attached, including the docking station without me having to say boo. Anyway, that's my input. Cheers.
