MEGAMACED was very kind and replied to my problem with loading an operating system to my laptop and I am pleased to say it worked - thank you. However, (there always is) now that I have an operating system on the laptop, the displayable area is only 50% of the screen and I am unable to re set the patrameters of the display card, unless it is only a poor quality or standard 16 bit card, but that would not necessarily explain the half size display area.
