I just bought my M/B, CPU, hard drive, etc. I think everything was installed correctly but not too sure. All I have to do is install my O/S so I insert a CD for XP and i get the message "booting from cd.." then the computer shuts down. I'm new at most of this so I really have no idea what im missing or what the problem is. I appreciate any help that is given. my specs: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.66 GHz 1066 MHz FSB 4 MB L2 Cache M/B: abit AW9D Max RAM: DDR2 1GB PC5300 Patriot GPU: ATI Radeon X1300 HDD: Maxtor 200GB PSU: 500w
Hmmm, thats unusual, could be due to faulty hardware, have you made sure everything is properly connected? e.g. the 4 pin and 24 pin power connectors connected to the mobo? but withought those i dont thik the pc would boot so you should be fine there, what is the make of that 500w psu? Does the computer actually totally shut down as if the plug has just been pulled?
Dont have the comp with me atm so I dont know the model of the PUS. But the computer just shuts down and I wait to see if it will start up again but nothing happens. It seems to always shut down as soon as it starts booting the disk. I've removed everything and put it all back together again and still nothing. Could it be the hard drive? It's a Maxtor and I know those aren't reliable at all.
A friend of mine had exactly the same problem. This is a real long shot - but did you apply thermal paste to the processor before clamping the heatsink down? My friend forgot to do this and the PC shut down just as it started to boot!
I knew i was forgetting to say something, yea should davidNW said it could be that you havent put apply the paste on the cpu, but most heatsinks come with paste allready on them, check if your heatsink is on properly, it may not actually be seated and clipped down properly.
Try removing one of your ram at a time to test them.. startup pc with one too see what happens, the remove that ram and test the other. Also have you tried to boot with a boot disk to see what happens. Just try a windows 98 boot disk, or what ever you have handy. It sounds like a conflict some where..
Its not the thermal paste cause I was checking out the BIOS settings for a while and it was on for about 10-15 mins. it only shuts down whenever the cd drive starts to boot the disk. ive tried several operating systems and same problem. I've also tried using other RAM sticks so that didnt help.
