I have 2 computers and was wondering if it is possible to run 2 soundcards out to one set of speakers. Like is there any adverse affects to doing this?
you'll need to get something like http://www.sfcable.com/store/10a3-033hf.html that just a 3.5mm stereo y-splitter with two male one female. one cable will connect a left and right speaker, you'll need three for 5.1 (with the center channel using a mono y-splitter) any adverse effect? could be but i'm not audio expert
Yeah i got all that, just wasnt sure if the signals would cross and cause an overload or something like that. Thanks
hmm maybe, if you're pumpin some mad beats through both soundcards on full volume on every setting you may run into speaker/amp problems
one way around having any problems i think would be to solder a diode on to each positive connection, but i've no idea about what size diode's to use
I worked on something like this a while back (an idea I had) Each coupler would need a switch to switch between the 2 cables from the soundcards. Each set (2 channel, there's 3 of these for a 5.1 system) would need a switch to change the signal going through to the speakers to the other soundcard. Currently I don't have time to look but try a search like this one.
