Hey, this is kind of a strange question to post on such a predominantly PC oriented forum, but here goes: Are G4's really outdated, or are they worth upgrading?

i wouldn't say that HWF is PC oriented. it's just that people don't post questions or queries related to macs.

as for the question - G4's? They're old, that's true. Maybe just compare prices and see. But it's, IMO, always better to go for a newer thing.

With OS X and Apple most new software is being written for the x86 and Intel architecture. I'm not sure if they're also still writing for the older PowerPC architecture.

It depends on how much money you're going to spend and what you're going to be using it for: if you've got a couple of grand and are looking to do power-hungry tasks then getting a newer Intel-based Mac is the definite option, if you've only got a small amount of money and are just looking to do things like web-browsing etc then going for a second hand PowerPC-Mac might be a good option.

I myself have used PowerPC Macs and Intel Macs, there's no doubt that the Intel-based Macs are superior.
