Unable to connect remote laptop to router

Have just installed a Netgear router and then went to connect two remote laptops to it.
First one connected with no problem. On the second one, after I hit the "connect" button, I got a dialog box that says: "Please wait while windows connects to Netgear network".
This goes on for a minute or so and then the box goes away without connecting laptop. I have the laptop sitting right next to the router and all the power bars are fully lit up, so I know it’s detecting the router. What am I doing wrong?
 
firstly, what is the router ? (model)
what is your O/S
other specs may help later
what wireless adaptors are you using ?
does the problem exist if you swap the wireless adaptors around (try the none working one in the working laptop, cos 1 may be dead)
