Unable to install win xp or win 7 on my desktop

Hi All,
I have desktop with the following configuration
Intel Pentium D 2.66 GHZ (533 FSB)
Intel 945 GNT Motherboard
2 GB DDR2 RAM
I am unable to install win7 or win xp on my desptop. Every time i try installing win xp i get Blue screen of death error in last 34 mins with error code 0x0000000A. But when i install win 2000 professional everything goes fine and i am able to install it successfully. I tried changing the Hard drive and RAM but i get the same error. Pl help me rectify this problem!

How long ago was that ? Sounds like your hard drive has Bad sectors on it, Have you run ANY kind of repair software Yet ? Some how it got corrupted...
You might want to try another hard drive..(NEW) one...

Thanks for your reply! I have somehow managed to get the solution for this, but it is not convincing even though i am able to Install win 7 on my desktop.I could install win 7 only after making changes in the BIOS.I had "enabled" SW single processor mode in BIOS, which is not recommended for a Pentium D processor as it degrades the performance. Can you please suggest me what could be the problem?
