ok, since i first build this computer i am using now it has bieng shutting down lots and lots when i have bieng playing games, now at first i had a 2.8ghz celeron d and a nvidia ge force fx 5200 256mb pci video card, 512mb ram and a 300w poer supply, now i have a pentium 4 3.0ghz (prescott), ati radoen 9600 256mb agp 8x, 500w power supply and 1gb ram, and i still experience shutting down, even when i have dual channel enabled, now when i just used ot play ut2k4 it used to shut down like every 2 hours most of the time, then i was not that botherd about it shutting down, but then i bought bf1942, and then i noticed that nearly every level i went on, as it was loading, the computer shut down, and then when i turned it back on, it came on, but no monitor came on, i had to turn the computer on and off sometimes between 8-20 times for the monitor to come on, but now i have added the new stuff like the pentium 4 3.0ghz processor, shutting down seems the have changed, it's alot more common on games, and when the computer shutd down, i have to turn it on and off about 8-20 times, but this time, the monitor dont have chance to come on becouse this time the computer only turns on for about 1 second and the turns off again.
at one time, i must of bieng messing about in bios, changing the settings, then for 2 weeks the computer hardly shut down, i could play bf1942 all the time but it did still shut down quite alot, eg 5 times a week, 1 time a day.

when i say the computer shutd down, i mean, the power just goes off straight away, there is no blue screen's of death of shutdown processes, its just an instand shut down, i have bieng baffled by this problem for at least since i build the computer at first, wich was during christmas.

also today, i was on windows, and then the screen just went blank and the computer restarted, the only other time it did this is when i unplugged the dvd/rw and then put the power in when the computer was still turned on, could this be due to power.

i have 1 cathode tube and 2 led fans connected into 1 molex connector, as the fans and led cathode tube came with extra connectors, and at the other side, i have one EL light cable, 1 led fan, and 1 bubble tube light connected together into one molex connector plug, and all the lights are connected onto the same power line going into the cpu, wich has 4 molex connector on, 1 or 2 or wich are free.

what brand is the power supply?

Also, www.memtest86.com download and run all tests of memtest and post if you get any errors

i have tie wraped a 80mm fan onto of the cpufan/heatsink and it has helped, my computer shut down at 64 degrees this time, and this has ruled out that temperature is not the cause of shut down, as my computer is not overheating, becouse it has never shut down at 64 degree before becouse i have never had it at the temperature on games before, its usually 77-80 degrees last time it shut down, so i am thinking it could be the power supply, or possible a motherboard/cpu problem.

64 degrees is still way too hot.

That is most likely the cause of it randomly cutting out.

It's possible if it was running at 70+ degrees that the hardware has been damaged, and so it's now cutting out at a lower temperature.

no, becouse when i turn the fan i just put ontop of it off it still cuts off at like 77 degrees, it defenitly aint the temperature becouse as i said, its like a space of time, i am windering if the cpu i have is not meant for this motherboard, but when i had me celeron d 2.8ghz in it still cut off, i am windering if the mobo could be damaged but i dont see how, it looks ok to me

look at that, is the power reading bad?, could it be the psu causing these shutdowns?

Maybe so, but the temperature is still too hot. It should be a lot lower than that - not above 60 certainly. The intel chips are known to run hot, but they are verging on dangerous.

Have you tried over clocking any parts, or tried to increase the voltage?

It is unlikely the PSU is making things hotter unless you have changed something. If anything they let out less power, rather than more.

no i think i may be using too much power, have u looked at that picture, i think my pentium 4 is a 530, also even when i put a hair dryer on it (cold air) the temperature wont go down any mroe :s
