Have you tried reconfiguring the xserver (or Xorg?)?

Can you actualy start Linux and log in, even just to command line?

If you can, try the following line - 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86'
I think you might need to be root.

I have buggered the xserver a number of times and this worked for me....

    Do
    Code:
    dpkg-reconfigure --xserver-xorg
and choose a generic video driver like "nv".

Alternatively, you could just edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and find the section about your screen driver change the line Driver "nvidia" to Driver "nv". That will do the same thing and be a lot quicker.
