Hi
Im trying to upgrade from 98SE to XP.

After starting the disc, the pc restarts, and I get to the blue screen which says "Windows Set up" at the top. Then....nothing happens! It simply doesnt do anything else and gives me no other options at all.

I know the dic works ok, as its been used before on another pc. The CD rom drive is brand new and definitely works fine.

Any ideas guys? Please keep it simple....Ive really not much idea at all of what Im doing!

Thank you :)

Well you *could* enter your PC's BIOS and change the boot sequence so that the pc boots from the CD Drive first.

Then restart with the CD, and you will be able to go through the install process. The only problem is you will lose your data unless you back up.

If you decided to do it this way, let us know and we can guide you through the process if need be. :good:

just a quick note for when you do begin to install xp around haf way through it will say something about combaility issues if i was you i would ignore these as there never right any way! and when your running 98 why don't you put the disk in whenyour logged onto 98 and just click "upgrade" tis cutes all that full out, because as we all no xp works rubish in dos ive had alot of truble installing it in dos bute that was on a slow system though. its up to u m8 but id try that. hope it helps Dave. :good:

just want to add to the ideas above, when you have issues installing xp a few things off the top of my head are
if you are overclocking...it will bluescreen
if you have a ata 100/133 drive, on a motherboard that controls 100/133 with a bad cable or a old 33/66 ata cable (or cdrom cable) it will bsod.
make sure you have the right ata cable, 9x systems install and work fine with the wrong cable, 2k and xp will not.
if you enter the bios and load setup/bios defaults might be what you need...video caching and a few other settings will cause a bsod.

hope this helps.
