Upgrading Windows Xp To Windows 7 Require A Clean Install?

I want to buy Windows 7 for my PC but I don't know if it's worth it. My 2 questions are: is Windows 7 worth the dollars and does upgrading Windows XP to Windows 7 require a clean or do I keep all my file and installations on my 3 hard drive on my computer (C:,D: and E:).

You need clean install. Unless you install Windows 7 to same partition with other files or XP install, then you probably do not lost any files and you still keep your XP install.
