I need to upgrade my computer's video card and memory, but I only have $400, and that includes tax and shipping. I want to get a 256MB video card, maybe even a 512MB one, and a 1GB stick of DDR SDRAM with my budget if at all possible because I want to play FPSs on it. I'm not worried about everything else, since I've got 2.6GHz processor and an 80GB hard drive that almost all full (it's less than a month old).

Can you direct me to a couple of items on the internet that has these items that fit my budget? I'd buy them in stores, but I live way out in the country, and no store is convenient to me. Thanks for your help.

Try this Corsair valueselect RAM here.

For a video card, it depends on your motherboard which card you can get. Download [google]CPU-Z[/google] and use it to tell us the motherboard model you have. Your CPU and other specs would also be helpful.

Okay what's your motherboard model? We need to know whether you need an AGP or PCI-e Graphics Card. We also need to know what the maximum speed and module size of RAM your motherboard can take, (this is usually 1GB modules @ DDR400.

I'm on the webpage that the first link took me to, but how do I download it?

also, it's an e-Machine. I already listed all the specs.

    Here's what I got from CPU-Z.

    Model: MS-7061
    Chipset: VIA KM400
    Southbridge: VIA VT8237
    Sensor: Winbond W83697HF

    does that help any?

No we mean slightly more detailed specs, like video card etc. That motherboard is an AGP one, so you can only get an AGP video card. You should be able to pick up a pretty cheap, good card like the Radeon 9800Pro or XT. Other wise its a new motherboard/system to upgrade further without spending lots.

For $400 you could get a decent Graphics card and some RAM, although what is your PSU make as you may need one more powerful to power a good graphics card...
    Graphics: ASUS X800 Pro $238
    RAM: G.Skill 2 x 512MB The latencies on this aren't too bad, others were 2.5-4-4-8 this is 2.5-3-3-6 $79
PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 480W PSU $70
So with the PSU it comes to $387, this is excluding S&H

IT'll work, but you may need a new PSU to handle it. Go for a 400W model from a good brnad like Antec, Thermaltake, Sparkle...

What's a PSU? Disregard if you've already explained while I was typing this.

PSU= Power Supply Unit, or short for power supply. That Emachines likely does not have a strong enough power supply, so upgrading it is a good move. That video card is a pretty low-end one. The 512MB is all show with that card. It's much like putting a big-ass spoiler and spinners on a Yugo. The Radeon X800, X700 or GeForce 6600GT or 6800's will blow that 6200 out of the water. While RAM does make a difference, you'll want to make sure that the graphics chip it's paired with is strong enough. A 6600GT is around $150-200 and will beat the pants off that 6200, even if it only has 128MB of RAM.
