    Hello everyone!

I have four computers that are being used in a lab that do not install flash drives properly. They are older computers running XP SP3 and have USB 2.0. They are on a university domain. The flash drive I'm testing is a USB 2.0 256 MB Verbatim brand pen drive, formatted using Fat32 (but it does the same thing with every flash drive I've tried so far.) The flash drive has been tested on other computers and it works fine. The same issue happens with all four of these lab computers.

When I insert a flash drive into any of them, it does not appear in My Computer or Disk Management. It does, however, appear in Device Manager with a yellow question mark. If I'm logged into an administrator's account, I can update the driver using Device Manager. This makes it detectable and functional from "My Computer," but it still appears under Device Manager with the question mark. Once I do this, the drive *is* detected under any non-administrative account when I test it. However, if I try a different, similar drive, it must repeat this whole process.

How can I make these computers install USB flash drives automatically for all users?

I have already tried the following:

    1) Trying the rear ports. Every port I try, the new hardware sound plays, but nothing appears in the taskbar, only device manager.
    2) Re-installing USB drivers using Device Manager.
    3) Running a program that modifies the USB privileges of users and power users.
    4) Checking for drive letter conflicts (does not show up in disk management until an administrator installs it).

I really don't feel like reinstalling the OS on all four machines. Any advice?

    Thanks!

Are the drives recognized when booting in safe mode? Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling the usb controllers?
