Hello! I have an ASUSRock P4V88 motherboard and am trying to install an SATA WD Caviar Green (500GB) HDD, in addition to my EIDE Maxtor (120 GB) HDD. The SATA will be the only drive once I transfer the information from the IDE to the SATA. The SATA drive is not recognized when I boot the system. I use Windows XP Pro SP3. When I viewed the device mangler I found that the device is failing to start. I have created a 3rd part raid driver floppy for a fresh Windows installation; after the OS Setup loads the drivers, I am taken to the installation page. After I try to install Windows, I see a screen that says that there is no HDD detected (I have my IDE disconnected at this time). The information suggested that I try running a Disk Diagnostic. I downloaded both the floppy and CD version from the WD site. The attempt with the floppy resulted in failure. The diagnostic program started to run but failed. I tried the CD version and it did even try to initialize. I read through the "read first" posts in this forum and disabled RAID in my Bios. The device reads the same error. Windows has the most recent updates and have already installed various drivers from the ASUS site. What can I do to get the new HDD going? Thanks in advance.
I forgot to add, my motherboard has both IDE and SATA plugs on it. I didn't think I would still need a Controller Card; but could this be the issue? Also the motherboard manual doesn't have any information about any jumper settings and there is nothing physically on the board that suggests the SATA connections on the board are disabled. There is, however, a PCI slot that is labeled SATA. From my understanding, SATA drives don't require jumpers to run. Is it possible that I need to jump the drive in order for it to be detected? Thanks in advance.
This should be very simple. All you need to do is install the SATA hard drive via SATA port 1. Go into your BIOS and disable RAID. Boot the Windows installation and you should be able to proceed with no problem.
Hello Scorps65, Thanks for the advice. I did that and also had to jump the drive to run SATA1 instead of SATA2. When I tried to enter into the Winblows set up, no HDD was detected. Running the SATA with the EIDE that I have right now works just fine; but the disk isn't being picked up during the PC's boot. If you, or anyone else, could point me in the right direction I would be greatful. Here is a link to my MB's manual. It provides detailed views of my options in my BIOS. ASRock > Products > P4V88 > Manual Thanks in advance.
