Hello all, this is my first post! Thank you in advance for you help....I have a Pentium 4 2.4ghz, ABIT AI7 mobo, 1gig of PC2700 ram, and an 80gig hardrive.. I am having major problems! About a month ago I started getting dots all over my desktop screen. They were usually white, but I eventually started getting blue, green, yellow, and many others. Anyway, this has turned into a bigger problem. In games it looks like the ground is moving, as well as I get smeared graphics and major glitches, but yet I still get good fps. I am talking about FPS game such as COD, CS:source, BFV. I was pretty sure it was my video card, but since there have been odd things occuring on my desktop too, I was wondering if it was something else, like my CPU???? Please helo Also as I type, I am getting a green ouline around my letters....
that sounds like the graphics card needs to be replaced, I had the same problem with my very old GeForce Ti4200, at first it started to happen in games but then after a while it started to happen on the desktop etc had to send it back to gainward to get it repaired. you could try to clean install the drivers or update to see if it helps.
I have tried all the drivers, clean install and everything, but still no change...also, I have 2 512 PC2700 chips, and my motherboard supports PC2700, PC3200, and I believe PC4000. Would there be a problem if I bought 2 more 512 sticks of PC3200, and paired them with the PC2700's. Also wil someone explain to me what Dual-Channel memory is? What does it do? and how do you select or configure that feature?
Yup, might want to change the ol' gfx card, anything in the Geforce 6 or Radeon X700/800 league will do wonders I would imagine. As for mixing speeds you can do it but I wouldn't suggest it, there can be some instability probs but generally it will probably end up just utilizing the lower speed anyway so you might aswell just get another pair of PC2700 and play it safe. Or you could sell what you have and start over with a 2x512 kit of PC3200. Basically dual-channel is a special technology used in ram pairs that boosts performance in many memory intensive tasks about 10% or so, you simply get more out or your memory bandwidth this way as they're being used in tandum. You mobo manual will instruct you on how to set up a dual-channel configuration. Sometimes it's a dimm in each of the same-colored slots and other times it's opposing colors etc. Check that manual bud. Once configured your system will automatically acknowledge this and you wont have to tinker around in the control panel or any of that crap. Good luck dude.
Your video card might be getting too hot, so I'd check the cooling, especially to make sure the fan is still working.
I have checked into that. It is not getting to hot, and the fan is still working fine. I believe that my card is broken...
Get the super l337 Intel Unextreme graphics, it will do wonders. But really, Exfoliate was right, an X700 should hit the spot.
ahh but its not worth the money, 6600GT in my opinion, idk some scores of the X700 have turned in lower scores than previous video cards by Ati
That's true, unless you love HL2 and GuildWars, otherwise go with the 6600GT, or see if they come up with a new card like the 7800 that is cheap enough for your budget.
Also keep in mind that the X700 series is exclusivly for PCI-express, as far as I know anyway, so that could create some probs if you don't plan to upgrade the old motherboard along with the video card.
