I have a Dell XPS, the 2nd generation one with the blue case.

I have a 9800xt, and recently there have been problems. The startup windows screen has lines all over it, and games will not start. I have reformatted the hard drive, and downloaded the latest drivers, but it still does not work.

Is there a problem with the video card or cooling?

Also, this computer is AGP. I want to buy a 7800GS, is that the best card to get AGP wise? Will it work in this Dell XPS computer, or will there be cooling problems?

firstly i would power off the computer remove the cover and check the processor fan is working (power on briefly) then remove and reinsert the graphics card if that doesn't work then remove and reinsert the RAM (carefully) if that doesn't fix it, first try borrowing some RAM and replace it with the RAM in the computer if that doesn't fix the problem, i would suspect a motherboard failure
