My girlfriend has a problem with her new PC, in particular her new video card, a Geforce 6600GT. She says she can't play "anything remotely 3D" for some reason and that her computer either crashes or the environment gets covered in green and purple triangles. Anyone have ideas as to the cause?
have you plugged the power cables into the graphics card in order the the card to run properly, and have you installed the latest graphics drivers? when you say its gets coverd in green and purple triangles, that sound like bad memory on the card!
Both responses have merit, actually. It could be a driver issue, which I would try first to update and see if the issue goes away. If not, it's likely a memory issue---either it's overheating or simply bad RAM.
The drivers are updated but the problem still persists. She tells me the card runs very hot. Maybe it could be a good idea to have the stock VGA cooler replaced with a better cooler?
Well, would it help to replace it, e.g. by a Zalman v700-cu active cooler? Or does it make no difference if it's already running hot?
personally i would remove and reinsert the graphics card, if that doesn't work then remove and reinsert the ram, sounds stupid but it will probably fix the problems. dave
