whats the oldest computer you have that still works. I have a 1987(i think) Macintosh SE, it has an austounding 8MHz CPU, 1MB of Ram, 80MB HD, built in 9 in CRT. Original Retail Price-$3700.(I hope my dad didnt spend that much on it.) Computers have come a long way havent they.
Anyone remember This screen? Yep, a Commodore 64, first released back in '82. The commodore line lasted 12 years and is still a popular computer to this day. Over 21 million C64's were sold! I don't remember how much it cost back then, roughly $600 i think. Had a 1Mhz CPU, 64K base memory with up to 512KB expandable, 20K ROM, Maximum of 16 colours with 320x200 pixels and only used 40 Watts of juice! WOW thats fast!!! It's under the house ATM, but i crack it out once a year to make sure it still works. I've still got about 35 - 5 1/4" floppy games with it, 2 joysticks, 2 gamepads and 7 or so cartridge games aswell :good:
I've got a Macintosh Performa 6200CD, one of the earlier CD ready models, from '95 I belive. 8Mb's of ram, 4gig hard drive I think? I don't know about the processor but it's not too quick. It wouldn't play the WarCraft II cinematics because they said a 200MHz or faster proc was required. I think we have OS 8.0 on there now and it runs like crap, I think v8 came out in 97?
It amazes me how a computer made in 1987 lasted longer than our old compaq presario made in 2001(only about 3 years of good performance then constant freezeing problems)
Well it's good they have lasted this long, i never expected my C64 to last this long! All those old computers are icons of modern PC gaming and computing, they set the standard as far as i'm concerned. Nothing beats playing a good ol' game on C64 or amiga or some other old PC. If they didn't make games like they did, then we wouldn't have killer titles like HL2, Doom 3 and F.E.A.R :good:
Gaming on the C64's was on thing, but it's hopeless on my old Mac, even titles made in '95 like the computer, 2D at that, run very sluggishly, except for blackthrone (an early Blizzard game from '96 I think) but it was pretty primitive.
Yeah, gaming on Mac's have never been big business. It's a shame though, because if Mac's were as good at gaming as they are with productivity, they'd be the bomb Can't beleive i just said 'the bomb'
We had one of those Acorn computers lying around somewhere, but it was around 6-7 years ago and I can't remember any specs. Just you loaded games and software with a cassette player and played frogger on it on the TV. It was that computer however that got me interested in BASIC programming.
Damn I'm fairly new to the whole 'computer' thing...only been really interested sice like 2000...I can remember my aunt's PC though, she gave it to me in the end but I never really got into it until we got our own PC, her PC was 266MHz, 32MB RAM, 4GB HDD...Windows 95....see I'm a total n00b compared to you guys...
Actually the Apple II's were the computer platform of choice for the majority of people back in the 80's. But obviously that has since died as nobody cares about that platform anymore but Aspyr pretty much.
Yeah, i remember playing one of them when i was like 5! That, and the Apple iMac, but the iMac games sucked.
i first had this AMIGA 500, i dont know if its somthign to do with commodore, but i always used to use it, and it was about 6 years ago whe i sold it for £60 i think, and i thought it was well fast! lol. before my freind moved to wales, he had an amiga 2000 or somthing, it was like the whole computer was inside the keyboards
well does anyone remember Pathways into Darkness(made my Bungie), personally one of my favorite games ever, however i cnat play it any more because the MAC that it works on has some problem with the keyboard.
