ok, i got a bad virus a couple of days ago. i think it was worm. Anyway i done an online scan at housecall which cleaned most but not all of the infections. I still can't get into any of my programs, it says is "sorry cannot find..." every time i try. My conclusion is that i'll need to completely wipe my Hard drive and start again. I've already saved all important word documents to a jump drive. Anyway i dont know how to wipe my hard drive. I can't download any programs because once i try to open them that message comes up "cannot find....". Could someone tell me a way around? Is there any way of manually wiping the hard drive?

Do you have a 'real' Windows disc, or is it one of those OEM "system restore" discs?

Do you mean an actual authentic copy of Windows XP? Coz i dont, i have a copy of XP

What do you plan on reinstalling then once the system is reformatted?

Yes, it is. What do you mean by "the copy"? We want to help you, but you must be as consise as possible.

can you guide me through making a bootable copy of Killdisk? Oh and say i did eventually get a copy of a HD wiping program would i reboot the comptuer with the floppy in and then it would work automatically or are there other steps?

If you have a copy of XP, all you need to do is delete the partition using the XP installation itself -- you don't need any 3rd party tools.

do you mean that if i put in this copy of XP that when i install it wipe the hard drive? remember this copy XP i got from someone i know, it wasnt bought from a shop or anything, just put on a disk.

Look, I'm closing this thread. We don't support pirated software here. Feel free to post again on this subject once you've got a legal OS you want to install. Nothing personal, but that's the policy.
