Hi all. I need some assistance with an installation of Vista Home Basic. The problem is the cd drive in the laptop is broke. I m trying to resolve this. My question is can it be possible to install an OS without the cd. For example copy the setup files onto the hard drive and run setup from the desktop.

Also could i pop any cd drive from any laptop to another.

    Thanks in advance

If you are installing Vista, then it is a DVD setup and not a CD...for copying, how can you copy anything without a dvd player.. And No,not all cd/dvd are interchangeable...

Take it easy man. I meant copy the files from a laptop with a working dvd player onto the hard drive from the laptop whose dvd drive is broken.

CD/DVD...it's the concept that was important.

Anyway ive succeeded in re-installing by copying the files onto a drive.
