this may sound like a stupid question but, got XP running in vmware on top of kubuntu, because XP is running on kubuntu (bridged networking) am i safe with no firewall and AV (XP installed without tcp ? (so no net access can occur) or do i have to be as careful as if XP was installed standalone ?

Edit: is it also possible to access a vitual XP (NTFS) partition from the host (kubuntu)

no - i think you misunderstand, probably my fault for not explaining correctly,

i have 1 PC, running kubuntu with (host in vmware) vmware installed

my question: with XP installed (as a guest in vmware), is XP still as vunerable as a standard XP install (with AV, firewall, spyware and stuff)

also: can i have or create a shared partition between kubuntu & XP (XP is a guest on vmware)
 
I think it is still vulnerable if the network connection is bridged, and XP should have its own network connection almost. You'll still probably need an AV if you're going to be using it, and spyware as well.

thanks, how do i trasnsfer AV, firewall & spyware software to XP from kubuntu, or do i just copy and paste, or can i create a partition tha is accessable from both the host (kubuntu) and the guest OS (XP) ?
 
Or you can share a folder on your virtual Windows XP installation and browse it through the network in Kubuntu

Example:

1)Share the C:\ and give it a share name "share". Make sure you have the correct permissions set
2)Write down the IP address of the virtual Windows XP machine
3)Go into Kubuntu and load up Konqueror. In the address bar type: "smb://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/share

XXX = IP address

both commads return permission denied

BTW: it would be easier to burn a CD in kubuntu, cos i know how to do that

i don't suppose (by any fluke of nature) you happen to know where USB pens are automounted, it's connected now ?
