Btw, temps went down from 48C idle (73C on die) with the stock hsf to 44C idle (58 on die).

I didn't use 90% alcohol to clean the hs and die, I only had 70% alcohol.

    anyways, my question.

Will removing the grid from the Volcano 11 give me better temps ?
I understand it won'T be dramatic, but will it help in any way ?

Maybe a little. I'd still have a grill on it to keep fingers and cables out of the blades, tho.
I'm not sure what thermal paste your using, but if you're not already, look into some arctic silver 2/3 or Antec Premium silver compound. Should help to knock the temps down a few degrees. Make sure to only apply a paper-thin coat tho.

    I have arctic Silver 3.

    I did it fast though.
I'm sure I could do better.

Yeah, it doesn't take long to do, but you just wanna make sure there's not a whole glob of goop on the core.

That's what there was at the start, I redid it and the temps dropped by 5C

Yeah, it's always best to clean off the CPU and reapply the thermal goop whenever you remove and/or change heatsinks.
