Vostro 1000 - No Display

I have a Dell Vostro 1000. Nothing displays on the screen. However, if I attach an external monitor, you still can't see the units initial diagnostics screen, but you do have a screen when it goes into Windows XP. I tried replacing the screen and the inverter and still no luck. If it's the motherboard you wouldn't think the external monitor would show anything. Any ideas? Thank you...

Have you checked the brightness controls for the laptop? Maybe somehow they got turned all the way down. You can try increasing brightness by pressing function key and then using the up arrow to increase, or down arrow to decrease. It only effects the laptop screen, not an external monitor, but I read you would still be able to see the brightness meter on an external screen.

Thanks Wildcard. Coincidentally, besides the screen, the keyboard also has two broken keys, one of the Ctlr keys and the Function key. I have another keyboard I'll install and give the brightness a try. Thank you...
