good evening, i want to buy a wap. what is important for choosing the wap? i made some search on internet and choose some models: 1. AirLive WMM-3000AP Mimo-G Wireless Access Point up to 125 Mbps speed, 4xLAN 10/100 Mbps, Mimo+TurboG+XT technology 2. PLANET Wireless Access Point (1T/2R) 300Mbps 11n Draft 2.0 - Ralink 3. D-Link XtremeGTM DWL-2100AP 54/108M Wireless Acces Point 4. US ROBOTICS 815461 MaxG Acces Point + Router, , 125 Mbps 2.4GHz, 4x LAN 10/100 Mbps, 1x USB, 1x WAN, WEP, VPN, firewall, DHCP, External which of these models you would buy, what is the reason for that? do you have some another proposal? atb JamesDee
simply because it is using 80211n draft 2, but draft 2 isn't officially released until about may, but as manufacturers can't wait, they are (i would say) jumping the gun because they want your money & they want to be the first manufacturer selling n draft 2 products, personally i'd wait until about July, then you can be sure that the draft has been officially released & all of the bugs & stuff have been fixed, if you don't you will be one of the few people doing the "beta testing" of 80211n draft 2, this is not a bad thing, that's fine for some people but personally would prefer some thing i bought was 100% tested & worked as expected, but i'm not trying to stop you buying anything but you should be aware of stuff like this before you buy anything just so you know that you may have problems with it Edit: there are many things to consider e.g. what type of building will the device be installed in: a stately home, modern office or a home environment & how old is the house ?
wireless will be used in the 20 years old 8 floor building with lot of small buildings around. i found out that i need wap with support for 802.11b or 802.11g, so planet is not for me. is it truth that d-link dwl-2100ap is the best wap in his class? freind proposed me to buy d-link dwl-2100ap.
the simple answer is no, because it's bit over technical for a noob (no offense) to install and generally the dwl-2100ap tends to be a bit pricey, a better & cheaper solution would be the Netgear WG602[ot]besides i don't like D-Link as the did make cheapo crappy plasticy looking stuff, D-Link product may be ok now but i personally can't forget the past[/ot]i do like Linksys & Netgear, so i can only recommend Linksys & Netgear stuff Edit: that's also why i use Linux, because of the fiasco that was Win9x
 cheers, i appreciate it BTW: welcome to HWF, if your like me, you'll learn a h3ll of a lot here & i owe everything to HWF nobody else Edit: BTW: it's Donkey, but don't apologize it's fine
hello again, I found one wap, TRENDNET TEW-637AP. here is the link. does anybody have some experience with this device? br
the device you provided an URL to is intended to upgrade an existing or wireless router to wireless "N" or slower also typically routers / wireless routers are usually about the same price, assuming your wanting a home grade router (or small office) so it's usually cheaper to replace a router if you want to add WAP (B, G or N) BTW: i thought you'd decided you wanted wireless G or B another wireless router to consider is here (you will find one easily by using your local google) BTW: that wireless router is wireless b & g
just for information. i bought second hand wap, linksys wap54g and i am very satisfied. thnx for help...
