WD 80Gig HD crash

my wd 80 gig which is running as master in my current computer just crashed. i dont know if it is a problem with the HD or a problem with windows that got corrupted. I tried to run the windows repair from my windows cd. but from what i know on using that, i wasnt sucesful. i have a number of things on there that are important and i require to save them. is there a way for me to get my information withdrawed to save em.
 
If you have another computer, put it in there as a slave drive, and copy the files across. Also, If you have another harddrive, you could boot from this with your WD as slave and copy files in this way.
 
when i run the boot install it wont let me create a partition on that drive. i ave a lap top though can i somehow connect that to my comp somehow

Pull out the 80GB drive from your computer. Put the other HDD on the 1 IDE cable. Insert your windows CD. Select New installation. Format that drive and do new windows installation. Then slave that 80GB in your computer. Copy the important data.
 
i cant format my slave i have everything else that couldnt fit on my master saved in there. i mite have to buy a new one which sucks
 
Id have a crack with the knoppix live cd. You can burn the stuff you need to keep from that, provided you have two cd rom drives.

I know it sounds mad but check that Cylinders, Heads, Sectors are set correctly in bios. My computer started to crash once all the time. Sometimes I couldnt even get into windows. It turned out bios was set to 8000 odd cylinders. I certainly didnt set it to that! Worked fine ever since.
1023, 16, 63 for that drive I think.

I have never done this but I think it is possible. Install windows on that USB pen drive. Once your computer starts working then you can easily transfer files and everything from one computer to another or one drive to another.
 
sooo as im transfering files over from the crashed Disc that is running as the slave drive but i cant access the files that are in passworded accounts. i cant save things from those accounts. but i do have the passwords for those accounts just dont know how to use the passwords to gain access
 
Thats possibly the case of taking rights on particular files or folder. Microsoft have this article on their website, search and see if you can find one...
