Well I have had a 500GB Western Digital My Book external HD for about 5 months or so now, and it has worked perfectly, its at about %50 capacity and runs smooth. however yesterday I turned the drive on and ALL of my files were gone. the drive pops up in the "My Computer" screen, and it also shows that 218gb are used and only 247gb remain. however when i go to look at my files, nothing shows. the drives shows nothing. I am not quite sure why this it, the WD site has no help, and since the problem is beyond simple installation problems and matters of that sort, they would charge me if i called. I have tried file recovery programs and nothing shows up. I cna move files over still and they show up but none of my previous files. I have not formatted it, and defraging the drives takes 3 seconds (the time it takes for me to push the button basically.) any help would be greatly appreciated. :x:
haha, update: so somehow my files reappeared, I can now see them, however now if i try to move files to the main directory or create a new folder in it it tells me it cannot because the path is "corrupt or unreadable" I figure i will just move all the data not backed up already any then reformat, but does anyone know why all of this happened?
