At 1st i am so happy for joinning you this very good site. I will buy a new computer and i want to ask some questions i want you to answer me: 1) AMD athlon 64 dual core or Intel Pentium D? which is the best in all thigs games, graphics, heavy duties........ and what is the difference between Dual core and the old one? 2) motherboard? Asus,Gigabyte or MSI? and which Model? 3) What is meaning of SLI? 4) what about XFX 6600 GT 256 DDR2? is it good? and which is best Gigabyte or XFX? at the end thanks for all of you who will help me and who will read and go. We use the comp in all things, i love games so much and want to play it so smoothly with very high graphics and also i use it in my study of Medicine and using the net for shoing Operations.,my brother works in graphic Desgin and uses so heavy programs such 3D max, Mia....,my 2nd brother is a software programmer. thanks for you.
Welcome to the forums. 1) AMD 64 X2 is the way to go if you'll be doing a lot of multi-taskng. If not then a single core chip will be good enough. 2) ASUS A8NSLI is a great board for SLI (SLI explained in next answer). There are many boards of various prices, it depends what you want. 3) SLI = Scalable Link Interface Definition of SLI - Using 2 (or more now) GPU's to provide more graphics processing power, you can usually expect to see a 90% increase in performance over a single card setup. SLI is an nVidia technology. 4) 6600GT is a good card for people on a budget, it really does depend how much money you want to spend as to how much you spend on the whole system. The I would say go for a 6600GT with GDDR3 RAM over the 6600GT with DDR2 RAM. in that type of card 256MB isn't really beneficial. 128MB should be fine for a 6600GT. A higher model look for 256MB+. Manufacturer is a tough choice, most are pretty much the same, some may have slightly different clockspeeds, some may offer pre-overclocked models whereas others won't. Some will thrown in free games or accessories whereas others won't. BFG, MSI, Gigabyte, XFX, Leadtek and eVGA are all good manufacturers. If you want help choosing components then we'll need a budget / use for the computer so we can find parts suitable. I hope that answered some of your questions. *Matt
thanks Matt555.it is more clear now but i wnat to know small thing: 1)Dual core meaning 2 processors in one part? Example 1; AMD 64 x2 4800(2.4Gh/2M/2000) meaning that this processor is (4.8Gh/4M/2000)? or not? and what is the meaning of Dual core Exampe 2; Intel Pentium D(3Gh/2M/800) meaning that this processor is (6Gh/4M/800). 2)what is the difference between AMD 64 x2 (939) Dual core and AMD 64 FX (939) Dual core? thanks again.
The only Athlon64 FX CPU that has dual core is the FX-60. The FX's in general feature a larger on-die cache than the Athlon64 939s. Additionally, they tend to be the highest clocked CPU's AMD puts out. The downside is that while they are top dog, they've got a large price premium, and to be honest, for most people, the cost isn't worth it. Dual core CPU's have two individual processors that run side by side. In a 3GHz CPU, you have two 3GHz processors in the same physical package. It doesn't add up to a single 6GHz chip. This applies to AMD and Intel chips. The processors are individual units in the same packaging.
