Well, here it is, GeForce FX5900XT. What next...?

Well, I got my own pc a week ago. Specs are:

Case:Antec Black Performance Series II SOHO File Server SX1040BII (pic: http://www.antec-inc.com/images/400/SX1040BII.jpg )
CPU: 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 E (800FSB)
RAM: 512 MB DDR
VGA:128 MB MSI GeForce FX 5900XT
MB: ASUS P4P800S
HD: Maxtor 40 GB :( i know, i know...

Now I won't go any further, because my question is this. Before selecting that video card, I done a bit of research, and I read that MSI GF5900XT is unbeatable and uncmomparable to Radeon 9800 PRO when OC'ed. Now I don't really wanna run to the store in few months because my card burned down. What are the highest possible frequences that are safe to apply? Stock it runs at 390Mhz core/700 Mhz Memory. In games, I don't experience any lags, everything is top-notch, except Halo, but, you know, Halo has a tendency of bursting our bubbles, doesn't it? So should I OC that card or not?IS it worth it or not? Thx for reading!
 
i would not OC that one. if your running without lags or low fps, leave it. If those are stock speeds what are the temps? you should be easily safe at 300/720 but i dont know the temps your at.
 
If you are not willing to accept that the card might die of abuse, let alone die younger than it should, then no, you shouldn't oc.

My 9800NP died after a year probably because it was flashed to a pro. I could have tried to rma it or to return it somehow but I'm honnest, know it's my fault, know what I did to it voids the warranty, so I accepted it and bought a new one. But that's just me and I know the majority isn't like that and that people might even think I'm crazy not to have at least tried to get something back in return but hey, the reason why it is so hard to rma something is exactly because of dishonest people.

Basically, if you're willing to lose that card like a man, then oc, if not, don't, because it WILL NOT last as long as it normally should, that is for sure.
 
harrack is completely right, however just like to add that if you do OC then you would be wise to have some graphic cooling..

for instance 2 days time i have an Artic VGA Silencer built specifically for:
ATI: 9500/9600/9700/9800 although it also fits the Ge-Force 3 GTS..

and it cools your graphics card down brilliantly.. obviously the more you over clock your card, the hotter it gets... so better cooling should be used.. + u'll get a better overclock..

the Artic VGA Silencer was £10 from ebuyer.co.uk (i believe around $22 us)

so well worth it..

the best VGA coolers are in my experience: Artic cooling and the Iceq ranges..
 
no to be quite honestly with you, i have an Aopen 5900xt and I overclocked it to 460/900 and I built up the courage to flash it to an 5950 and it worked. Now it says i have got an 5950ultra and it runs at 475/950 speeds and cooler than the 5900xt because of the increased voltages, relaxed memory timings and The 5950 just runs cooler. You should overclock that card to the max!!! Thats what its all about
 
my 5900nu is clocked to about 412/720. i tried to leave it at
stock settings but jedi academy won't run smoothly even with medium settings so i had to oc. i don't know how voice did that with his card. I personally wouldn't try anything that extreme.
