My girlfriend has a dell lattitude pentium 3 and like 500 mhz and she uses it for university. it has windows xp on it(maybe she should have 98) and its slow as ever and even her wireless interent is slow we are in the same room and i use the wirless too and i get speeds up 660 kb/s and if she is lucky she will get 100. it only has a 5 gig HD . we cant afford another laptop so we wanna know if there is anything we could do to this one ?? thx

Also her battery only last 25 minuits so she wants a new one but i think those are hard to come by or expensive?

Windows XP is probably most definately responsible for the slowdown, as i remember correctly XP requires a minimum 500Mhz CPU and 128MB RAM!
Do you know how RAM the laptop has?
Also could try changing XP's appearence to the old 'classic style' in your desktop properties and turning off unneeded or unwanted startup programs and services!

I'd install windows 2000 pro. Same operating system essentially, just uglier
