Well I finally talked to my Dad about upgrading this summer, the conversation did not go well, but as expected. He absolutely loathed the idea of me upgrading, especially the video card ("Five-hundred dollars!, no we've talked about this..."). He feels I can put money to "better use" and thinks I build it to recently for it to warrent an upgrade. Even worse so he tried to pull one of those "I told you so" lines on me as if it was like I didn't want to computer anymore. I want a computer, just not one with these parts;) So the best I could get out of him was to allow me to by my frickin' monior and I'm going to splurge on the best ram money can buy. I'm sure it will help me out but It's not the same...*tear rolls down cheek* Alas I'll have to chug along with this beast for another half-year at least, fair enough I suppose

Exfoliate your very lucky to have a PC like that. Why would you need an upgradeon your video card?
When I wanted to buy my FX5900, my mum was going to pay for it since it was an xmas thing for the whole pc, and she wanted me to go with her to PC World, and ask a technician whether it would be a good upgrade for the price. He was reluctant as his job there means he should try to sell their cards but he said yes anyway. then I got it.
Thing is now, I work with the same guy in PC World (work experience).

thanks guys, I would have tried to convince my parents to allow me to get the 7800GTX or something else in that series or ATI's new line, what ever's the best bang for the buck. You're right it's a good card, not a great one but it gets most things done. If it had twice the memory I probably wouldn't care but 128 is going to be bad pretty quick.

Its a bit pointless to get a G70 now, when the price will drop in a few months time.

how long do you think it will be for the 7800gtx to drop to x800pro prices (£180)

do you think i should buy a x800xt now?, how long will it last, will i need to upgrade in about 3 weeks?

or would it last me 1 or 2 years?

I won't be getting any new card this summer, my dad doesn't want me to upgrade anthing, I was lucky to get his go ahead on the ram and monitor so I don't want to push my luck. As for how long that card will last it depends, if you want to be able to run every game on high then it will last till about 2006 maybe. If you can live with turning things down some than you'll probably be able to 2007 or even 8 but I dont' think you want to do that. If you ask me don't buy any card now, wait for ATI to launch it's new series of cards, see how they compair, wait for the prices on the X800 series to drop because of this and then buy something:good:

if you are a gamer I understand the need to upgrade but if your not like me, I think you have a great PC! better than mine! I don't see the need to upgrade quite yet.

why not save up for a much bigger upgrade?

i like playing games at highest settings, if i cant play games at highest settings, i usually am not satisfied, but if necessery, i could go down to medium settings, my computer can run gta san andreas on very high settings (maximum) and max withdraw and fram limiter turned off, but i dont run gta san andreas good at all with anti aliasing turned on.

i have to buy a new card, becouse i am upgrading processor and motherboard, and its pci-e, i need to upgrade becouse my current computer wont stop shutting down on games, after 15 mins on gta san andreas, computer shutd down, and when i get back on windows, sometimes it says, your system has recoverd from a serious error.
