ok, well just a min ago i was in documents and settings, i right clicked on my user and selected properties, it said that the folder contained over 6gb of data, so i went into the folder and highlighted every file, and total space took up by all files in the folder reading over 6gb was 141mb. so were has all my space gone, is there anyway to retrive all this space??
i know, i said, i was looking in documents and settings, then i right clicked on my username, and it said it had 6gb of data in, but when i went into it, i highlighted everyhitng it was only 141mb, that was in documents and settings/ my user (will)
Goto tools > folder options > view > and check off view hidden folders and files and see if quite a few files show up. If it's already on view hidden files I'd suggest doing a scandisk and try defragging the drive and see if that resolves it.
i tried finding it, but i can't it seems to scan on boot but be sure to defrag a good 3 or 4 times until it flys by on it
You can't find scandisk? Idiot! It's simple - Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management, Storage, right-click the Volume, Tools, Options, Check Now button, Select Options, Start. And you couldn't figure that out for yourself? http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/scandisk.htm
Can't you just right-click on them and select delete? If you hold down the shift key and click on delete it will actually delete them rather than send them to the Recycle Bin.
yea i can do that, but i dont want to muck up the system by deleating all of em. does it actually matter if i get rid of em all???
They're temporary files so in theory you shouldn't. Well actually in theory the program that created the files should also have deleted them when it was done but that's another subject. To be safe though I would reboot into safe mode or DOS mode (making it less likely that any of the files are being used) and delete them from there.
