    hi
i have a MSI 945P Platinum board running pentium D 840. one night pc powered off randomly when i was sleeping. I first suspected PSU, so got another antec 650psu which strangely powered my board. The strange problem is that the board only powers if i dont connected the 4pin p4 12v connection. though it powers only fans spin no display no beeps.

    i tried my GIEL ram
sticks in other machine and it works.

    what could be the issue?

Are you able to test the CPU in another computer? If its OK then it looks to be the motherboard.

To me this suggests the motherboard is dead!

I think Sniper is correct your MOBO is dead. Initially check your PSU by shorting it with cables from Blue and Black from PSU. then your Ram, etc.
