yeah that looks pretty good, but like for another 100 dollars you can get a 8800 GTS, which would be majorly sweet. Oh yeah on that, your PSU might be a little weak, seriously don't want to disregard your PSU, like a quality unit with a 600w rating would be good.
well actually after having thought about it im going to get athlon 64 x2 4200+ rather than the 5200+ and im also gonna get the 8800gts from PNY rather than the xfx 7900gt. im not sure if I should go with PNY or some other company. Also i asked on the PSU forum and Willz said it was ok to use that psu with the 8800gts. If you don't think it might be enough do you have any recomendations for a good 600w psu. thank you!
well i dunno, its seems a little underpowered to me, but i guess its just opinion. My unit is really nice, its an OCZ powerstream, 600w. Its really nice , good quality and voltages on the rails.
[OT]Just out of interest / curiosity, what do you actually plan to do with your computer? You too Swansen, do you really need that much power to surf around Hardware Forums? I could do that with my Pentium 2 350Mhz computer in the loft![/OT]
Its always nice to have a cool pc though. I mean tose people who get super-rigs to get high benchies cant actually benifit form their massive expenditure but its nice to have the baddest machine that you can possibly afford... Anyway back to the topic. The simple fact of the matter is that you need to get a conroe compatible mobo and and the best Intel Core 2 Duo Processor you can afford. They are better by far than anything AMD is offering at the moment. Your PSU should be fine provided that you will not be wanting to go sli in the future. Its good for one gfx card but not two You should seriously not buy a dx9 Gfx card now. If you have to wait a bit and save then that is what must be done. To buy dx9 in that sort or range is not a good idea.
I need a little bit of a definition of what it means to be conroe compatible and also if by dx9 you mean direct x 9 then the 8800gts that I am planing to get has Direct x 10. I'm still not sure what OpenGL 2.0 is. I changed my power supply because I do want to sli in the future, I decided to get the Antec true power trio, it comes with 3 12V connectors, i dont know if that will be a problem. If you guys think getting a core 2 duo and intel motherboard is a better idea then i will do that. I want to not have to upgrade for a while and If i need to save a little more then that is fine too. I am open to any suggestions for motherboards. I am wondering if everything else im getting is compatible with the intel mobo. it probably is.
Thomas, i have four graphics cards (kinda,/ i like the gaming) THEY EAT POWER. But yeah, i forgot to mention that part, it will be fine if you don't add anything else at all, maybe. But i agree with Matt, don't buy a DX9 card, no point. Yeah, go core 2 definitely. Its the best investment rate now, and AMD isnt going to have anything comparable for months. yeah, if you mean Graphics card, ram, HDD, optical drive, then yeah, they will all be compatible. Really the only difference is the socket for the CPU and i guess the chipset. For a Mobo, seriously go Nvidia 600 series chipsets. They are the cats pajamas, well i think so, and as do many a others. But its a great chipset and Nvidia makes there chipsets for Intel now, so its great, that said get something by Asus or Gigabyte, there good.
Sorry Swansen I think you misunterstood me. I mean why do you need the processing power? What do you do with your computer that needs 4 graphics cards? (Btw yes, I am jealous ).
lol, i just like pretty things so i run my games and they can be all pretty. Well for games like Supreme Commander which is almost all CPU demanding, rather than GPU demanding. But yeah, i actaully get a lot of lag, so i guess what i have is really not that sweet ether. Yeah, that and for the folding
