I have about 1k and Im looking to build a gaming pc. I know I want at least 2g ram, since I have 1g now and thats not enough. And I want raptors in raid0, unless they came out with something better than raptors and I can afford it. This is what I have now. 2.8gb p4 asus p4c800e 1gb corsair 3700 agi 9800pro 120mb ide HD
Assuming you keep your case, monitor, mouse and keyboard, here's what I came up with for the guts, all prices off Newegg. Motherboard: Foxconn NF4K8AC-RS $65 CPU: Athlon 64 3200+ retail $162 RAM: Patriot 2GB PC3200 dual-channel kit $188 Video Card: Sapphire Radeon X850XT 256MB PCIe $249 Hard Drives: Western Digital Raptor 36GB $104.50 x 2= $209 Optical Drive: Lite-ON SHW1635S $39.99 Power supply: Fortron AX450-PN 450W $49.99 Total: $962.68 + shipping and tax (for CA and NJ only) That should give you the bang you need.
Thats a great system, although tbh, i would pay the extra $60 and get the ZipZoomFly eVGA 7800GT 256MB $309.99 BARGAIN! - Good overclocking motherboard as well!
Good point. Yeah, if you can swing it, it'd be a better move for the 7800GT. I searched for video cards with a $250 max. I've not used Foxconn boards before, but I've yet to hear anything bad about them...unless you're looking for some hardcore overclocking.
there a sale on newegg for the 7800GT ahem..eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256mb GDDR3 PCI Express 16X only 284.00 originally 304.00 subtract 20.00 mail in rebate and a free copy of Quake 4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130247
faster more powerful more expensive the best there is right now but the 7800gt is more than enough especially if you will be getting another later on
I couldn't come up with exactly what I had over @ Newegg, but here's what fits the bill at ZZF: Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4-F--$84 CPU: Athlon64 3200+ retail--$161.40 RAM: Patriot 2GB PC3200--$189.90 (before $20 rebate) Hard Drives: Western Digital Raptor 36GB (x2 @ $105)--$210 Optical Drive: Lite-ON 16x DVD+/-RW--$44.99 Power Supply: Antec SmartPower SP-450 450W--$65.59 Video Card: Asus EN6800GT-2D265T GeForce 6800GT 256MB--$239.99 Total (assuming the regular 2day shipping): $995.87 (975.87 after rebates) Options: Drop GeForce 6800GT and upgrade to this eVGA GeForce 7800GT for $304.99 (Before $20 rebate) New Total: $1,060.87 ($1,020.87 after rebates) You could also drop the DVD burner, which would cut out $50 off the total for the setup with the 7800GT, bringing it down to $1,015.88 before rebates, or $950.88 if you keep the 6800GT (before rebates).
I dont need optical drive and stuff. Just need cpu mobo ram video card HD I been looking at pricewatch, so far im pretty sure im gonna get these raptors http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merc...e=M&Product_Code=150239&AFFIL=pricewatch&NR=1 and the 7800gtx, the price is obviously gonna go over 1k, but thats ok. Umm cpu/mobo... Im thinking about 4000+, I been looking on price watch, and there is 2 different kinds apparently. Just 4000+ and 4000+ 90nm rev.E. Which one is better. As far as mobos.... I have no clue. http://www.pricewatch.com/prc.aspx?i=306&a=242441 They offer like 20 different kinds of Mobos and price difference is only few bucks. Which mobo there is best? Umm so far im like 340+450+400=1300 or so. I dont know this patriot brand of ram. Should I just spend like $300 and get brand name ram or what?
I'd check out those resellers over at Reseller Ratings. Don't go by price alone. I'd rather pay a little extra at Newegg or ZZF than go with some shady dealer with an unknown track record offering a killer deal. MonarchPC and mWave are supposed to be some very excellent vendors as well, but I haven't purchased from either. mWave seems to have prices that are pretty competitive to Newegg, so you might want to check them out as well. But, definitely cross-check Reseller Ratings before you buy. I'd go with an nForce4 Ultra board from ECS, Gigabyte, MSI or Foxconn on the cheap-end of things. If you want boards that tend to overclock, then go with Asus, Abit or DFI. Avoid boards from Epox and PC Chips. I don't know what power supply you have, but if you don't have a decent unit (I would not go with something less than a 450W with at least 22A on the 12V rail) from the likes of Antec, Enermax, Fortron or Sparkle (same company, different brands), OCZ or Tagan, then buy a new power supply. Having a quality power supply is a critical part that I would rate as one of the biggest purchases. Between that and your motherboard, it's going to seriously affect your stability. Avoid Q-Tec and Ultra power supplies---these are very poor quality units. If I wanted to blow up my computer, I'd just lite some M-80's in my case instead. Patriot is an excellent brand, as is OCZ and Corsair. Patriot doesn't cost as much as other brands, but offers good quality stuff. I mean, if you don't want to, that's fine, but if you want to save some money and still get a good product, I'd go with Patriot.
Why the hell do we get taxed in NJ i always buy from newegg and anything over 1K will cost you lots of money extra bc of taxes. DAMN. But yeah, stick with the 7800GT i have one myself from EVGA you won't be disappointed. Unless you want overkill then get a GTX; in terms of speed you can overclock the GT but still the GTX has more pipelines which makes it better, right? Final solution is keep ur current card and wait like a month, then get the GTX; Video Cards always get cheaper in a with some time patience, thats why i went from a 6800gt to a 7800gt.
My opinion on video cards is buy crappy and wait. Right now a 6800GS is 200 dollars and it won't ever let you down. In 8 months, there might (stress might) be a need for a 7800gtx and as luck would have it, they will probably be about 250. Or you can pay 450 right now and get the gtx. I don't think you'd need to upgrade from the GS for another two years, though.
i spent just over £750 on my system, look at my computer under my avatar for details, the price is not including hdd opticals and monitor, also check out the pictures of it
mate, there is a hell of a difference between a 6800 and a 7800 gtx, a big big difference! and a 6800 will let you down, in some of todays new games!
6800GS not 6800GT not 6800GT not 6800GT not 6800GT As for your sound card, how is that working? I am hoping to get a nice sound solution soon.
Due to tax laws, since Newegg has a warehouse in NJ it's considered to be doing business in that state and therefore, NJ residence can be taxed. The 7800GT provides much better performance (up to double the 6800GT, depending on the situation) and roughly the same power use. I mean, if you can't or don't need that power, fine, but prices being close to $300, that's a pretty good buy for the technology.
