Erm has anybody got any clues to what happened here?

I had been surfing monday night , left the pc on , while i was out the other half did some shopping , on return went surfing again , everything ok , finished up and shut down pc . other half decided to do some more shopping (women !) so switched pc back on and was met by the error message "invalid system disc " what ?! so tried in vane to resurrect pc but nothing!

Decided then to install win98se and spent hours re-installing various software & downloading anti-virus stuff , but 1 of my hard drives had vanished ! finally called it a night at 3.00 in the am and left aforementioned anti-virus running overnight.

woke up for work & checked pc , met by a black screen & a curor & f*** all else ! Result switched pc off & went to work thinking the worse ...R.I.P. my pc!

Just out of curiosity thought i would try the dead heap of sh*t of the night &everything was fine , including my 2nd hard drive had returned but was now half full!

any one any clues ? ta much in appreciating any clues as to what happened this time , it's got me stumped ! (yes , britney strikes again ! get it whoops i done it again !))

Can you see it in BIOS at all? if not it looks as if the HD won't work again, but just to make sure! unplug the IDE cables and then plug it in again or try the HD in a different machine.

:D hello sniper ! ;) as we speak everything is nearly ok , yes the hard drive is visible in bios ,it wasn't being recognised in "my computer" at the time of it's sulk but being recognised on start up and in bios ! i think it must be a female computer and was suffering from p.m.t. (sorry girls u know we love u really )
i have no idea what went wrong or why (can usually put errors down to lack of experience and amateurish tinkering) think 2nd h/d has got a copy of windows on it but don't know how to determine whether it's win98 or win98se
will check what's on and delete duplications to free up h/d space (is this a wise idea ?) :good:
