Are the low end new line of cards better than the high end old line of cards? Case in point, ATI X300 and Geforce 6200 vs. ATI 9800 Pro and Geforce FX 5950. Or are the low end new cards just better than the low end old cards. (x300 vs. 9200/ geforce 6200 vs. Fx5200) I was just wondering b/c i have an onboard X300 on my asus motherboard, which i'm using while the folks at newegg ship my 6800gt back to me. I play games on this thing but its choppy and terrible for high end gaming. (however it does run cs source at about 21-35 fps on some decent settings)
Know those chips are basically out to replace their older brothers like you suspected. So yeah the X300 is a tad better than the 9200 (more features at least) although the 6200 is a good deal faster than the 5200 which was a fairly poor card even at it's release. For onboard the X300 is really good, beat the heck out of Intel Extreme for instance but can't even tough the 9600's, let alone 9800's. Which is why they're only about $50-70, low clock speeds, few pipelines/vertex shaders, basic memory, boring core etc.
